Fire on a Christmas Morning Kills Boy
A fire broke out rendering people homeless on a Christmas morning in Brgy. Duljo Fatima, Cebu City.
Firefighters arrived at the scene around 4:00 a.m. after a distress call was received by the Cebu City fire department earlier.
The fire quickly spread throughout the area as the houses were mostly made of light materials. Around 6:26 a.m. firefighters declared the fire under control.
Nagiel Bañacia Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, said that they have found a charred body of a boy who was later identified to be Cyrus John Ferras, a 12 year old boy.
Witnesses said that Cyrus was sleeping inside an internet cafe when the fire happened.
429 houses were burned in the fire leaving 571 families homeless on a Christmas day. Sitio Buli, Sitio Mansanitas and Sitio San Pedro were affected by the fire.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined by the fire investigators. The cost of the fire is pegged at P3 million. (Aljun Cainghog)
