Filipinos Receive Millions of Spam Messages in One Month
Filipinos receive millions of spam messages monthly as telecommunications and service provider companies continue to block the harmful messages sent by unknown elements.
This comes as Globe Telecom, Inc. (Globe) reported recently that they have blocked more than 138 million spam messages from the start of the year to June 15.
Moreover, Globe reported that they have blocked the most spam messages in May, which totaled 74 million block messages.
Globe said in a statement that the figures they have increased include app-to-person and person-to-person messages.
The service provider added that the origins of the messages are both from local and international senders.
“The total figure includes app-to-person and person-to-person messages of both local and international origin,” Globe said in a statement Monday.
The service provider also deactivated over 12,000 mobile numbers after the numbers were reported as a source of malicious messages through an anti-spam web portal by Globe.
This is similar to Smart’s efforts to stop similar malicious messages from reaching consumers, as the service provider reported earlier this month that they have blocked over 23 million malicious text messages in a span of 3 days only, from June 11 to June 14. (GFB)
