Filipino Math Wizards Place 2nd Overall in Thailand

The Philippines bagged 240 medals to wind up second overall in the final standings in an international math contest in Bangkok, Thailand.

Filipino elementary and high school students took home 34 gold, 74 silver and 132 bronze medals, and 87 merit awards in the 2016 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) to grab second place behind China in the contest that was participated in by nine nations and territories.

“Our delegates showed a very good performance in the contest and we are very happy,” said Dr. Archieval Rodriguez, president of the Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines (MathDAP), adding that there were 350 Filipino math wizards who joined the the contest.

Besides the Philippines and China, other participating countries and territories were Thailand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Vietnam.

The Filipino gold medalists are:
