Farmers to be Recognized by DA-7

The Department of Agriculture in Central Visayas (DA)-7 will recognize farmers through the upcoming “Regional Gawad Saka Awards” on September 10 this year.

Melquiades Ibarra, Chief of the Agriculture & Fisheries Information Section of DA-7 said that farmers play a big role in the society since they supply food that is needed on a daily basis.

“Naningkamot gyud intawon ni sila para naa tay makaon, para sa ekonomiya sa nasud (Farmers work so hard for us to have something to eat and for the betterment of the country),” said Ibarra.

Ibarra said that the DA-7 will recognize 35 outstanding farmers this September 10 and they will receive cash prizes and plaques.

Ibarra also encouraged more people to engage in farming.

“Enganyo nato mga tao nga mu engage ug farming kay para makatabang pod mo (We are encouraging everyone to engage in farming so that you can help your countrymen),” Ibarra said.

The DA is also encouraging the youth to engage in farming by enrolling in agricultural courses.

The DA will also include Outstanding Young Farmers in the Regional Gawad Saka Awards.

Aside from Cebu, farmers from other provinces in Region 7 (Siquijor, Bohol, and Negros Oriental) will also receive awards. (MLC)
