Farmers In Davao Oriental Receive Php47-M Worth Of Agri Projects
Farmers’ organizations in Davao Oriental have received Php47 million worth of agricultural support from the Department of Agriculture (DA) under its Agri-Pinoy Program to sustain the increasing production in rice and other farm products.
Included in the huge fund support were farming equipment such as corn mills, farm tractors, floating tillers and open source pumps.
This developed as DA recognized Davao Oriental’s contribution to the rice sufficiency in the country and the successful implementation of various projects that boost agricultural production, especially the multimillion-peso Cateel Irrigation Project.
Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala earlier noted a 26 percent increase in it rice sufficiency performance from 42 percent during the first term of Gov. Corazon Malanyaon to 68 percent last year.
DA has announced that the country hit an increase of 16 percent in its rice sufficiency from 81 percent at the start of President Aquino’s administration to 97 percent at the end of 2015
Davao Oriental Information Office reported that Alcala recognized the significant contribution of Davao Oriental in the national government’s bid to increase the country’s rice production. (PNA) SCS/LILIAN C. MELLEJOR/LDP
