Famous US Comic Character “Archie” Will Die This Week

Publishers on Monday said that the famous US comic book character, Archie Andrews, is set to die this week, calling such story a fitting turning point for the iconic brand.

In the new issue, on sale this Wednesday– “Life with Archie #36”, the famous red-head will die after attempting to save the life of a gay friend, taking a bullet intended for Kevin Keller.

Keller is the newly elected senator who was also introduced as the first gay character in the comic in 2010.

Archie comics publisher/Co-CEO Jon Goldwater said in a press release that “the death of Archie is the biggest story in Archie Comics history – and a major milestone for comics, period”.

“Archie dies as he lived – a hero, representing the best in all of us” the statement said.

Goldwater added: “The fact that he’s saving Kevin … is a metaphor for the rebirth this company has experienced over the last five years. This is truly a new Archie Comics: unafraid, daring, progressive and on the cusp of greatness.”

Archie, along with fictional Riverdale characters, was launched in the 1940s. Archie is a famous legendary comic character beloved by million around the world for almost 70 years. The comic is popular with generations of US youngsters.
