Family Alleges Negligence Vs Hospital Staff After Boy’s Death
Relatives are accusing the hospital staff of negligence after a seven-year-old boy died while being treated in a hospital last November 12.
Relatives of Jezniel Rocina accused the attending staff of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) after the incident.
Teresita Rocina, Jezniel’s mother, said Jezniel suffered stomach pains and was first brought to the Pinamungahan District Hospital on Nov. 8, then was transferred to VSMMC Nov. 9. She said that when they arrived at the hospital, there was allegedly no nurse or doctor to take care of the boy.
A doctor reportedly prescribed paracetamol for the boy, no one attended to her son, she said, adding that while her son underwent blood and urine tests, the hospital did not inform him about the results.
The boy was scheduled for an ultrasound test Nov. 13 but died Nov. 12. Report said the initial cause of death claimed by the hospital was dengue, but this was later changed to cardio-pulmonary arrest.
The boy’s family does not plan to take legal action against the hospital but hoped that what happened to their son won’t happen to another child.
The hospital management, for their part, said it has formed a committee to investigate the boy’s death.
The hospital’s management claimed they learned of the boy’s death not via a formal complaint but via social media.
