Fair Weather to Prevail in Most Parts of the Country until Sunday-PAGASA

Manila (PNA) — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday said the country will continue to experience fair weather for the next two to three days.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Glaiza Escullar said the agency has not monitored any weather disturbance near the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) that may intensify into a tropical cyclone or affect the country until Sunday.

Escullar said a weather disturbance off the Pacific Ocean is expected to enter PAR on Monday and has high chance to intensify into a tropical cyclone.

Once it enters the country’s area of responsibility and develop into a tropical depression, it will be locally named “Glenda.”

Except in Mindanao, he said most parts of the country will continue to enjoy relatively good weather for the next three days.

Escullar said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will be the dominant weather system affecting Mindanao.

ITCZ, which is the thick clouds coming from the south of Asia, is considered a breeding ground for low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclone.

Due to a weakened southwest monsoon, Escullar said the rest of the country including Metro manila will experience fair weather except for isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms until Sunday.

For the month of July, she said the state weather bureau is expecting two to three storms to enter the country.

Every year, an average of about 18 to 20 storms affect the Philippines, according to the PAGASA.

For Friday forecast. PAGASA said Davao Region and CARAGA will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

It added Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds coming from the southwest to south will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Light to moderate winds blowing from the south to southwest will prevail over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) LAM/CLTC
