Fair Weather Seen in Most Parts of PHL Except S. Luzon

Except in Southern Luzon, most parts of the country will continue to experience fair weather on Tuesday, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA weather forecaster Gladys Saludes said that a Ridge of High Pressure Area (HPA) — the dominant weather system extending over Northern Luzon — will bring good weather conditions to the country in the coming days.

Despite a warmer weather, the occurrence of isolated rains will still prevail due to localized thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

She said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over most parts of the country including Metro Manila.

Saludes said northeasterly wind flow will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Mimaropa and Calabarzon.

She said the country is now in the transition period as the wind will be shifting from southwest monsoon to the cold weather-associated northeast monsoon this month.

She said the southwest monsoon is the prevailing weather system in the country during the rainy season or from June to early October, while the northeast monsoon or the “winter winds” normally starts during mid-October and ends in late-March.

The northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” is the cold wind from China and Siberia that blows into the country from late October until mid-February.

It is usually associated with the Christmas season.

Meanwhile, Saludes said that the tropical storm outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has slim chance to enter the country as it headed towards Japan.

She added the agency continues to monitor it. Once it enters Philippine Area of responsibility it will be locally named “Landa”, the 11th tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.

She said one more tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country this month.

In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern and Eastern Luzon and Eastern Visayas the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
