Fair Weather Prevails During APEC Summit

Fair weather is expected during Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit 2015 Leaders’ Meeting as as most parts of the country, including Metro Manila, are projected to have sunny to partly cloudy skies within the next two to three days (or until Friday).

This is mainly due to the easterlies which continue to be the dominant weather system now affecting the country, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday.

The APEC Summit, to be attended by world leaders, is an important platform to showcase the Philippines as a viable economic, financial, and investment hub for foreign visitors.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Shaira Nonot said due to easterlies — warm winds from the east — now prevail over the eastern section of the country.

With the presence of easterlies most parts of the country including Metro Manila — except the eastern section — will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains mostly due to localized thunderstorm or convection.

The chances of isolated rains are high in the areas located in the eastern section of the country since it is affected by the easterlies.

The easterlies or winds from the east are “warm,” the convective activity brought about by its intense heat triggers the formation of localized thunderstorm clouds.

She added that its “rich in moisture” quality also contribute in the formation of thunderstorm clouds.

Nonot said the country will continue to be storm free within the next two days or until Wednesday.

She said the agency is not anticipating any cyclone to affect the country during the APEC summit.

For Tuesday forecast, cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over the regions of Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

It added moderate to strong winds blowing from the east will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast with slight to moderate seas.

The state weather bureau has not issued a gale warning as the fisherfolks is safe to venture into the sea. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
