European Boutique-Inspired Hotel Opens in Cebu

Its “serious”, European boutique-style, is what sets it apart from the rest of the hotels you can find here in the metro. “It is clutter-free, worry-free, so we just give them what they want,” marked Madeleine Elyse Jo, one of the daughters of the owner, during the soft opening of MJ Hotel & Suites last January 11.

The new hotel boasts of a cafe, serving an American continental menu, an 80-150 seating capacity function room that can host events and a weekend entertainment, 54 hotel rooms and 21 service apartelles. It is a family owned hotel, spearheaded by their father Atty. Mat Jo and five of his daughters who all bear the initials “MJ” in their names thus, the name of the hotel.

Operating under Jo Brothers Corporation, MJ Hotel & Suites got its initial inspiration by Jo and his family during their trips abroad, where they saw various businessman hotels that exude a “homey, but business” environment.

“It started in 2007 during a family trip to the US…and got inspired with these businessman hotels…we told our dad that, ‘Dad, why don’t we build our own business hotel?’,” said the 17-year old Elyse Jo in her welcome speech during the opening of the hotel. After another trip to the US years later, the Jo family finally decided to start with the construction of their 9-storey hotel, which now sits at 80 Apitong St., Brgy Kamputhaw, Cebu City.
