Entry of Low Pressure Area Not Yet Affecting Country-PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday said the cloud cluster outside the country has developed into a low pressure area expected to enter the country within the day.

Based on the agency’s forecast models, PAGASA weather forecaster Fernando Cada said the weather disturbance may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Tuesday and will not yet affect the country. However, he advised the public to monitor the weather condition.

Cada said that as of 4 a.m., the LPA was spotted some 1,110 km East of Surigao del Norte (09.6˚N, 135.6˚E).

He noted that the since the country is experiencing dry season, the agency continues to monitor the LPA which is expected to bring cloudy and rainy weather over parts of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao.

He added the LPA has a slim chance to intensify into tropical cyclone due to strong vertical wind shear coming from the easterlies which is the dominant weather system affecting the country.

If the LPA develops into tropical depression inside the country, it will be locally named “Dodong”, the fourth tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.

Cada said the easterlies or warm winds from the east that brings good weather continues to be the dominant weather system affecting the eastern section of the country.

For Tuesday, he said the entire archipelago will have sunny to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains mostly in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorm or convection.

However, he noted that the chances of isolated rains are high in the areas located in the eastern section of the country since it is affected by the easterlies.

He explained that since the easterlies or winds from the east are “warm,” the convective activity brought about by its intense heat triggers the formation of localized thunderstorm clouds.

He added that its “rich in moisture” quality also contributes in the formation of thunderstorm clouds.

The temperature in Metro Manila for Tuesday will range between 25-35 degrees Celsius.

Monday’s highest temperature in Metro Manila was at 33.5 degrees Celsius recorded noon at the agency’s Science Garden in Diliman, Quezon City.

PAGASA also said light to moderate winds blowing from the east will prevail over the eastern section of Luzon and Visayas and coming from the east to northeast over the rest of the country.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. (PNA) LAM/CLTC/EBP
