Eight Brgy. Workers Found Positive of Illegal Drugs
Eight more barangay workers had been found positive of illegal drug use after the employees of Barangays Labangon and San Roque, both in Cebu City, were subjected to surprise drug testing on Thursday.
Labangon Barangay Captain Victor Buendia said he was surprised to know that two elderly women, members of the barangay street sweepers team, were among the five drug users in his barangay.
Buendia said the three other drug users among his employees are members of the barangay’s garbage collection team. Buendia has decided to terminate the services of said personnel because he does not want to work with drug users. The barangay captain prompted request that all of his personnel be subjected to surprise drug test.
Barangay San Roque
From Barangay Labangon, the team of City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) headed by Dr. Alice Utlang proceeded to Barangay San Roque (Ciudad), near the Cebu City port area.
San Roque Barangay Captain Lediore “Boy” Miranda was celebrating his birthday together with all of his personnel when Utlang’s team arrived at past noon.
The barangay personnel were enjoying eating the crispy lechon when Miranda announced that he invited COSAP to conduct a surprise drugtest to all of them, including elected barangay official.
A barangay tanod and two garbage collectors were found positive for illegal drug use.
“Wala g’yud ko’y mahimo gawas sa pagtaktak g’yud nila sa trabaho kay tinarong man ni’ng ato nga panerbisyo sa barangay,” the barangay captain told MetroCebuNews.
About 60 barangay workers in Cebu City had been found positive of using illegal drug, so far, when the COSAP personnel conducted the surprise drug testing to the employees of 15 barangays.
