‘Egay’ Triggers Flooding, Brownouts in Negros Occidental

Bacolod City (PNA) — Torrential rains and strong winds in Negros Occidental brought by Tropical Storm “Egay” over the weekend caused flooding and brownouts in some parts of the province.

Some 100 families composed of 500 persons were displaced by strong winds and flooding that damaged their houses in Valladolid town in southern Negros, a report of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) showed.

On Saturday night, brownout that lasted for 12 hours was experienced in some areas in Hinobaan town and Sipalay City also in southern Negros after a primary line of the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) in Barangay Nabulao, Sipalay was cut off due to strong winds.

The power interruption started at past 8 p.m. Saturday and power returned before 9 a.m. Sunday.

NOCECO president John Peter Millan said it took 12 hours for their crew to locate and repair the damage because the power lines traversed mountains in the area. (PNA) JBP/NLG/TDE
