Baguio City (PNA) — The Department of Health (DOH) Cordillera Regional Office is reminding people to eat and drink in moderation to curb the increasing prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases.

DOH Regional Director Amelita Pangilinan said people should practice a healthy lifestyle not just this holiday season, but all throughout their life.

Pangilinan said cases of heart attack and stroke are prevalent from December to January due to eating fatty and high cholesterol foods like “lechon” and drinking too much alcohol.

Pangilinan advises everyone to go easy and not to over eat, avoid too much alcohol, kick the bad habit of smoking, have regular exercise, maintain appropriate weight and eat nutritious foods

He underscored that prevention is the best way to deal with any kind of sickness.

The Baguio Health Services Office (BHSO) cautions the public of the common sickness acquired during the Christmas Season like cough, colds and flu-like symptoms due to the cold weather.

The health department is again promoting “Oplan Iwas Paputok”, and calls for a total ban on any form of firecrackers, for the safety of everyone this holiday season. (PNA) LAP/JOJO B. LAMARIA/EDS
