Eastern Communications to Implement 8-digit Landline Migration in October
Eastern Communications, one of the country’s premier telecommunications companies, announces its implementation of 8-digit landline migration for their voice services in Greater Metro Manila starting October 6, 2019 in compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications (NTC).
The NTC issued Memorandum Circular No 04-07-2018 in July 2018 mandating all existing 7-digit numbers within Greater Metro Manila will be migrated to an 8-digit phone number.
“Eastern Communications is one with the government in its vision to address the insufficient number of assignable exchange codes in Metro Manila. We’d like to advise our customers ahead of time and ask for their patience as we migrate them to the new numbering plan,” said Eastern Communications’ Legal and Regulatory Director, Atty. Jonathan T. Altubar.
All Metro Manila telephone operators will simultaneously implement the migration on October 6, 2019 from 12:00 MN to 5:00 AM. “We urge our customers to inform their families, friends and business associates and partners of the migration schedule as they may experience downtime during the period,” added Atty. Altubar.
All telecommunication operators have been assigned a PTE (Public Telephone Entity) identifier by NTC, with number 5 being assigned to Eastern Communications. All Eastern Communications subscribers’ new 8-digit telephone number is 5 + their existing telephone numbers. If the subscriber’s current telephone number is (02) 300-7000, starting October 6, he could be contacted by dialing (02) 5-300-7000.
