The Cebu Provincial Government issued a moratorium on Tuesday, May 16, to give time for owners to voluntarily demolish their properties and structures that are inside the determined easement zone in Lambug Beach in Badian Town.

After a consultative meeting at the Cebu Provincial Capitol, the measurement of the easement zone was determined by the measurements of the high tide and other data on the shorelines of Lambug Beach, which is 20 meters.

All structures within the easement zone should be removed. This is to protect residents from the area from storm surges and other calamities. The easement zone will also provide tourists more space to enjoy the said sought-after white sand beaches of Lambug, Badian.

The Cebu Provincial Government said that they will provide support for affected owners of the structures within the 20-meter easement zone.

The affected owners will be supported through the provincial government’s Province’s Enhanced Countryside Development (ECD) Program.

Aside from the ECD program, the Cebu Provincial Government will also help affected owners through the Sugbo Negosyo Program, a program that aims to enhance SMEs’ business operations capabilities. If qualified, they will receive a cash incentive of P10,000 to be used as capital for their business. (ASC)
