Electronic games, or e-sports, will be included in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games here, with six gold medals at stake for two events each in computer, mobile and console categories.

This was announced during a press conference organized by Razer at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City on Wednesday.

Razer, the world’s leading brand in e-sports, will be the official partner of the sport in the SEA Games that will be held in November next year.

During the press conference, it was also announced that Moonton, the publisher behind the hugely popular title “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang”, will also partner with Razer during the SEA Games.

In a press statement, Razer said that as official partner, it will draw upon its expertise and experience in e-sports, as well as its ecosystem of hardware, software and services to support the e-sports tournament at SEA Games 2019.

“E-sports has been the essence of Razer ever since we were founded, and we have supported countless global events, tournaments, teams and athletes over the past decade and a half,” Razer co-founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan said in the statement.

“The sportsmanship and fighting spirit seen in e-sports is no less than that of other sports, and we’ve fought hard for its inclusion in an international sporting event, like the SEA Games 2019,” Tan added. (PNA)
