Dyson to Expand to PH, Hire 400 Engineers for Ops
The United Kingdom-based technology giant Dyson, known for its high-tech vacuum cleaners and other electronics, announced plans to build a new battery factory in Singapore, with technology centers in the UK and the Philippines also underway.
The company, headed by billionaire founder Sir James Dyson, said that it will hire 400 new engineers for its Philippines Technology Center. This effectively doubles the amount of factory space dedicated to advanced technologies.
Meanwhile, the UK technology center will be located in Bristol and will host hundreds of software and AI engineers.
Dyson’s latest investments continue the company’s strategy of basing manufacturing operations outside the UK while retaining research and development functions in the country. This includes its research and robotics facilities in Malmesbury and Hullavington in Wiltshire.
For the Philippines, the investment is particularly significant as it will create much-needed jobs in a country where unemployment rates have remained high. By investing GBP166 million in Santo Tomas, Dyson is signaling its commitment to the region and its people. The new technology center will not only provide employment opportunities for engineers but will also support local suppliers and service providers.
The creation of 400 new engineering jobs and the doubling of factory space dedicated to advanced technologies will certainly create a positive impact on a local economy in need of job opportunities as the country continues to weather the storm that is the post-COVID-19 world. (GFB)
