Dye Basics 101
Change is good, but sometimes we’re too afraid to take the plunge, especially if we’re talking about hair! Before making a decision, read on to know what you’re getting yourself into!
1. Are you Warm or cool?
Determine your skin tone category first. You are cool-toned if your eyes are between brown to black. Your hair is either blue black, deepest coffee brown, medium golden brown or medium ash brown. Your skin is very brown and most Asians have a true olive shade. Medium shades with pale or faintly pink cheeks, or with golden undertones are also sure signs. You are warm-toned if your eyes are of a light to golden brown shade. Your hair would have to be of a deep brown shade with gold or red highlights. Your skin is brown with pink or golden undertones, or pale with peach or golden undertones.
2. How to choose your hair color.
Remember your dye works with your base color (your natural shade) so results might not come out exactly how you wish. Some labels of hair coloring products or your colorist can also help you with the outcome of your chosen color. Cool-toned people look good with ash brown or blonde, reds, burgundies, raven black and even purple. Warm-toned people look good with dark warm browns, warm golden browns, golden blondes to auburn.
3. Should you do it at home or at the salon?
It depends on what you want. If you want to go for a darker shade or color your entire head you can follow the instructions on the label and do it yourself. If you want dimension, highlights or a lighter ‘do then the salon is the best choice for you.
