“Improve your performance and I will campaign for you.”

This was the assurance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to Visayas Mayors in the recently held Visayas Island Cluster Conference of the League of Municipalities of the philippines (LMP) here in Cebu.

Duterte told the almost 300 Mayors in attendance, there will be no partisan politics in next year’s elections.

“You will get your fair and peaceful elections,” Duterte said.

He however gave a condition as to when the aspiring mayor can get his endorsement, and that until they improves their performance especially in the fight against illegal drugs.

“Kung outstanding ka sa inyong peace and order I will go to you. Wala man akong pera, bigyan kita ng maraming projects (I may not have money , I will give you many projects), I will go to the stage and campaign for you,” the President said.

He said the Mayors can ask the assistance of Department of Interior and Loc al Government (DILG) secretary Eduardo Año in the campaign against drug proliferation.

“If there is a drug problem which you cannot solve, you go to Secretary Año, tell him the problem and he will solve it for you.

Sabihin, dyan may nakatira dyan na anak na addict (You can tell that in there, is a son who is an addict),” Duterte said.

He further reminded the Mayors that they have his power in their Municipality.

“Ikaw Ako (You are me). You are the President, no matter how small a town, you have my powers,” Duterte said.

He told the Mayors that according to intelligence [reports] because of the government’s efforts against drugs, there is no more shabu laboratory in the Philippines.

Most of these he said, are already imported, from the bamboo triad in particular.

The Visayas Mayors gathered for a three day conference in Cebu under the LMP to discuss essential issues affecting local governance.

Present during the event were Senators Cynthia Villar, Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, Political Adviser Francis Tolentino and Senator JV Ejercito.

It is the second LMP cluster conference; first was in Davao for the Mindanao group and third is scheduled next month with the Luzon mayors. (fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
