Dumaguete City to Host Muay Thai Tourney This June
In line with the goal to make Dumaguete City a premier destination for sports tourism, City Mayor Felipe Remollo threw his support to the Mano-Mano: Fight to Unite Muay Thai event which be held at the Macias Sports Center, this city, June 29, 2019.
The NegOrense and Asian Games Gold Medalist Romnick “Leon Kilat” Pabalete will be pitted against Thai fighter Detnarong “Tong Po” Omkrathok in the main bout of the tournament.
The winner of the competition will move on in the WBC Super Flyweight Championship Belt for Muay Thai.
“This Mano-Mano Sporting event in our city and province will really give credits to our accolade as sports organizer of the year and then sports destination,” Remollo told Dumaguete reporters in a recent press briefing noting some of major recognitions given to the city in the field of sports tourism.
“We are so blessed and lucky in [their] choosing Negros Oriental as venue,” he added.
The local chief executive also cheered for Pabalete citing the entire city is proud of him and will be there to support him.
This tournament, the second part of a series of events organized by DTC Promos Inc., is one of the leading events and activations firm in the country.
The main objective of the event is to discover and promote the best Flipino Muay Thai fighters who will be trained to compete in big shows abroad.
DTC Chairman and CEO and Event Promoter Ed Dames shared why they chose Pabelete to fight in the main battle.
“The other unique about Romnick is his hip-hop background and Taekwondo background he can do a lot of unconventional Muay Thai (moves). Very exciting fighter si Romnick (Romnick is a very exciting fighter). Romnick usually surprises his opponent because his got a lot nakatago sa pocket niya (his got a lot of tricks under his pocket),” Dames said.
With this, event organizers and Pabalete invite the public to watch the tournament.
“Akong gi-invite ang tanan na motan-aw sa dula ug mosuporta sa atong mga local fighter na matabagan pod sila nga naa silay opportunity to compete mo-represent sa ilang hometown (I would like to invite everyone to watch the game and support our local fighters. Help them have the opportunity to compete and represent their respective hometown),” Pabalete said.
Co-main event of the game is MMA Fighter Arvin “Asintado” Chan who hails from Pamplona versus Chung Seongjin from South Korea.
Eight other matches will be held before the main event featuring a fighter coming from Iloilo, Cebu, Leyte, Bacolod, Baguio, Batangas, and Pangasinan.
