Duckweed Survival House Concept
Designers Zhou Ying and Niu Yuntao have created a survival shelter concept called the Duckweed Survival House. The survival house is a floating emergency shelter designed to elevate survival rates and assist with rescues in disaster situations such as tsunamis and floods.
The shelter comes with a gas tank at the base that helps to stablize the shelter no matter how rough the waves are beneath it, and at the same time helps to convert seawater into fresh drinking water.
The square-based survival houses can be tethered together, increasing their stability, visibility and resistance to the effects of wind and waves. It has fluorescent markers on the exterior that allow rescuers to locate the shelters easily at night.
The Duckweed Survival House has won the 2015 Red Dot Award World of Design.
