DTI Requests Online Sellers’ Database Access From Online Platforms
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) requested the social media giant Facebook to let them access the database of online sellers in the country. The agency pursues the access the said database to protect people against bogus online sellers who are using social media to perform their illegitimate activities.
DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez said that e-commerce has been a trend especially during the pandemic where people are suggested to stay at home.
He added that what they are trying to do is “consumer protection”.
Aside from Facebook, DTI is also asking permission to the country’s leading online shopping platforms Shopee and Lazada to do the same.
“Ang daming kausap with respect to how we can really help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” said Lopez.
Meanwhile, there are 13,000 establishments in the Philippines who are registered with google in which they can access to different business solutions.
Currently, only enforcement authorities are given access to the mentioned database. (MLC)
