DTI Reminds Businesses to Secure Permits for Promotions
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has emphasized the necessity for businesses to obtain permits before conducting promotions. DTI Assistant Secretary Amanda Nograles stated that such activities fall under the agency’s jurisdiction and require permits.
Nograles warned that failing to secure a DTI permit for promotions could lead to penalties. DTI maintains a team monitoring both physical and online promotions, urging consumers to review promotion details carefully.
The incident involving the takoyaki store “Taragis” drew attention for its April Fool’s Day promotion. The store offered a PHP100,000 prize for tattooing its logo on one’s forehead, sparking controversy. A participant’s photo with the tattoo prompted inquiries about prize redemption.
Consumers are encouraged to report unpermitted promotions to DTI to ensure compliance and protect consumer rights. (ASC)
