DTI Issues Violation Notices to 7 Business Establishments
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Enforcement team recently issued Notices of Violation to seven establishments here that were found violating the Price Tag Law (RA 71), Standards Law (RA 4109) and Presidential Decree (PD) 1572 or the Repair Shop Accreditation Law during their spot monitoring and enforcement activities last week.
Lenore Lee Lopez of DTI Quirino said the spot monitoring and enforcement activities were led by DTI 2 officer in charge Randolph Cacacho as part of their mandate of protecting the consumers against unfair trade practices of some businessmen.
“Some businessmen were warned for violating the Price Tag Law or failure to place price tags on every product displayed and offered for sale. It is in place to keep retailers from changing the prices of goods without warning,” Lopez said.
Lopez said a number of business establishments have violated R.A. 4109 or the Product Standards Law which prohibits the distribution, sale, or offer for sale of any product covered by Philippine Standard Certification Schemes which does not conform to the required and applicable PNS quality or safety standards.
“Department Order No. 2 series of 2007 prohibits importation, distribution, sale, offer for sale or manufacture of any product covered by mandatory product certification which does not bear the BPS required identification and product markings,” Lopez added.
Lopez further said that under Presidential Decree (PD) 1572 or the Repair Shop Accreditation Law, no service shops can operate unless duly accredited by the DTI to ensure public safety and consumer welfare. This covers repair shops for air conditioner, refrigerator, and motor vehicle, heavy equipment, computer, electronic and electrical units.
The DTI has enjoined the consumers to check on the required marks and labels prior to purchase of goods. They should also look for duly accredited repair shops for their mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning requirements. (ALM/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
