DTI-7 to Protect Consumers Against Abuses
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7 on Monday has assured to protect consumers in case abuses will occur from any concerned establishment whom they believe is abusing their basic rights.
Jojie Villamor, DTI-7 information officer in a press conference, said that customers have all the rights to complain against any officers from a department store whom they suspect is abusing their rights.
She said that every customer is entitled to eight(8) basic consumer rights.
These are the right to basic needs, the right to safety, the right to information, the right to choose, the right to representation, the right to redress, and the right to consumer education.
Villamor said that the DTI will uphold and protect the consumer’s rights once the complaint will be filed to their office.
However, she advised that as much as possible any problem between the customer and the establishment, with regards to the goods the customer bought, must be settled first by the department store’s management.
Villamor added that in case of negative result, consumers may refer this problem to the DTI together with all necessary evidences, and they can assure a proper treatment of their case.
She also encouraged the public to make inquiries with DTI office any problems related to their rights and they are assured of a fair treatment.
