DSWD Supports Bloodletting Campaign
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 7 supported the “Donate Blood, Save Lives, Be a Hero” bloodletting campaign by providing food packs to blood donors.
The bloodletting activities were conducted last July 10, 2020 in Mandaue City; July 16 in Hoops Dome, Lapulapu City; July 19 in Paknaan, Mandaue City; and July 20 in Talisay City where DSWD-7 was able to distribute a total of 399 food packs to the donors.
There will be another bloodletting activity on July 23-24 in Balamban, Cebu.
The bloodletting campaign is a joint initiative of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) and the Department of Health (DOH) Central Visayas, supported by the DSWD-7 and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). It aimed to supply the possible lack of blood in the blood banks in the region most especially during the season of dengue.
The campaign is also to support the cause of Convalescent Plasma Therapy. A kind of therapy that helps some COVID-19 patients to recover.
DSWD-7 Regional Director Rebecca P. Geamala is very thankful to all the blood donors, for her, donating blood is a heroic act since it will be given to those who need it the most.
Taking from the bible verse of Matthew 25: 23, 40, “When God says, come to me, you faithful servant. What you have done to the least of my brothers, you have done to me,” shared Geamala.
“These people, they are also in need, but they choose to give more by donating blood. The food packs we gave to them is nothing compared to what they shared. And we are all participating in helping one another,” Geamala emphasized.
