DSWD 7 Turns Over P2.5M for 15 Orgs
The Department of Social Welfare and Development 7(DSWD-7) turned over P 2.5 million to the Department Social Welfare and Services in Cebu City to be used as seed money for the 15 selected organizations under its sustainable livelihood program.
According to the statement released by the DSWD-7, the money will be loaned to individuals who are members of the chosen organizations so that they can start their own small businesses.
Earlier, Cebu City’s DSWS picked organizations coming from barangays Buhisan, Carreta, Luz, Adlaon, Kasambagan, Talamban, Cabancalan, Kalunasan, among others as recipients.
Among the beneficiaries are those from persons with disabilities (PWD) and those considered as indigents. These organizations, which were handpicked by the agency, will receive certain amount as seed money. The beneficiaries are also chosen from DSWD’s Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program.
DSWD-7 Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat and the Department of Social Welfare and Services Chief Ester Concha recently turned over the checks to the 15 organizations.
The DSWD said among the income-generating ventures that the beneficiaries can start using the money for are farming, hog raising, handcrafting, food processing, and sari-sari stores.
“We are promoting sustainable livelihood especially among Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries because we see it as a complementary program from receiving cash grants to earning their own income, so that they will become a more sustaining and self-reliant families,” said Jabagat.
