DSWD 7: More Than 40K Food Packs Delivered
On its fifth day of repacking operation on Thursday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Office 7 has delivered more than 40,000 food packs to areas affected by typhoon Ruby.
DWSD 7 Assistant Regional director Shallane Lucero said they are now exerting more effort to hasten the repacking of food and other aids in order to meet their daily quota.
Lucero revelaed that DSWD’s target is to make at least 50,000 food packs a day. She added that they could hardly meet this figure as the deployment of volunteers and staff is inconsistent.
She explained that some volunteers would only spend a few hours in the center while they have to attend to their other functions for the day.
As of Thursday, DSWD has already send aids to affected areas such as DaanBantayan, Sta. Fe, Camotes, Tabogon, Bogo, Tudela, Tabuelan and Mandaue. She explained that they encountered delays last Monday as the Coast Guard prohibited vessels carrying their cargoes from sailing the seas.
More Volunteers
Lucera calls for more volunteer to repack food for typhoon Ruby victims.
She said their repacking centers are open 24 hours a day, located in CICC basement area and in Sacred Heart School for Boys Gym.
