DSWD-7 Delivers Relief Assistance to Families Affected by Marawi Clash
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VII has already sent a total of 20,000 family food packs (FFPs) to Mindanao to respond the need for food of the families affected by the armed conflict in Marawi City.
On May 25 and 26, DSWD 7 sent 10,000 FFPs to Iligan City and on May 28 and 29, another 10,000 FFPs were delivered to Cagayan de Oro City.
“As a response to the immediate needs of the affected families, we provided support to DSWD-ARMM and Northern Mindanao as part of the concerted effort of the government to provide.”
“Each box of family food pack contains 6 kilos rice, 4 cans sardines, 4 cans corned beef or beef loaf and 6 sachets 3-in-1 coffee.”
“Through the Visayas Disaster Response Center (VDRC), we were able to improve the production of FFPs using the mechanized production system, storage of food packs and warehousing of food and non-food commodities,” Macapobre added.
The VDRC was established by the DSWD to enhance the emergency response in the Philippines through the assistance from the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP) and from the governments of Australia and the United Kingdom.
Since the operation of VDRC in April 2016, DSWD-7 has sent relief assistance to other regions like region 2 for Typhoon Lawin, region 5 and region 8 for Typhoon Nina, region 13 for the 6.7 magnitude earthquake in province of Surigao del Norte.
