Dr. Davide Donates Lot To School For Agriculture

To inspire the youth’s care for agriculture, Dr. Romulo Davide donated an almost 5,000 square meter lot to Colawin Elementary School (CES) in Barangay Colawin, municipality of Argao.

No less than Department of Education (Deped) Secretary Armin Luistro signed the deed of donation in behalf of the school.

CES was founded by the Colawin native and late Schools Division Superintendent Hilario P. Davide Sr. He is the grandfather of Gov. Hilario P. Davide III and father of the donor.

The donation also corresponded to the thrust of the current administration of Gov. Davide, who included education in his six-key development agenda.

“All the efforts that lead to the promotion of a better learning environment will always have a significant effect on the overall development of the community,” said Gov. Davide, who witnessed the signing of the donation on January 14 in Colawin, Argao.

“An educated community encourages good governance, demands transparency in the government and helps prevent graft and corruption,” he added.

CES also marked its 70th founding day celebration. Davide Sr. formed the CES on the day of his birth. If he were alive today, this would be his 111th birth anniversary.

Sec. Luistro also led the unveiling of Dr. Davide and his wife Clara’s marker, which was placed in front of their donated property.

In his speech, he said, “Dr. Davide, who is a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee is well-known for bringing science to the Filipino farmers.”

“And by this act we would want to pursue and train more Filipino students to become farmers and to know the science of farming,” Luistro said.

Luistoro also stated that Deped established the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” to bring back the students’ interest in agriculture.

He also hoped that Davide could inspire the new generation of Filipinos who could “bring the joy of farming, science, arts back into our culture and roadmap for a better Philippines.

The education secretary added that the agriculture sector in the country is getting older because those who completed their studies lack interest in farming.

Cebu Province Schools Div. Supt. Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud said the donated lot will primarily be used by the senior high students for their agriculture subject. She said they willbe taught how to plant and how to market their products as well.

The municipal officials of Argao led by Mayor EdselGaleos and Deped 7 Director Juliet Jureta, also attended the activity.
