DPWH to Finish K-12 Classrooms on Time
Tacloban City (PNA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways-Leyte 2nd Engineering District have started the construction of 12 out of 20 classrooms for the first batch of senior high school (SHS) curriculum next year.
According to 2nd LED district engineer Carlos Veloso, the first batch of classrooms for the senior high has been allotted a Php167.3 million by the Department of Education.
Veloso added that the second batch of classrooms for construction have been allotted a separate fund of more than Php40 million.
“The 2nd LED is undertaking a total of 28 classrooms for schools in Leyte’s second district, all for the K to 12 implementation,” Veloso said.
All classrooms are expected to be finished by March 2016 to comply with DepEd’s directive to finish them before the start of the implementation of Grades 11 and 12 in the next school year.
DPWH is expected to finish half of the number of needed classrooms for the first year of implementation of SHS and the other half in 2016.
Senior high school under the K-12 curriculum officially opens in school year 2016-2017 with the enrollment of students in Grade 11, followed by Grade 12 in academic year 2017-2018. (PNA) JMC/SQM/AHLETTE C. REYES/EGR
