DPWH 7 Installs Rumble Strips in Dumanjug’s Kanyuko Road
Cebu Provincial Traffic Focal Person Joy Tumulak on Tuesday said that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7’s 4th District Office mounted pavement markings and rumble strips in Barangay Kanyuko Road, Dumanjug, Cebu, following the tragic vehicular accident that killed five persons last Monday.
“Subay sa instruction ni Gobernador Davide, gisusi dayun sa grupo kung unsay mga lakang nga himoon aron malikayan ang disgrasya sa dapit nga nahitaboan kagahapon hain lima ka tawo ang nakalas,” said Tumulak.
After the one-hour inspection, a team from the DPWH immediately conducted a thermoplastic operation that will mold rumble strips, which is a series of raised shreds that produces noise on a vehicle’s tires and would warn drivers of speed restrictions.
These pieces of device were placed along the road where the accident involving an open-type multicab and a delivery truck happened, said Tumulak.
“Mao kini ang resulta sa inspection ug rekomendasyon sa Kapitolyo human gihimo ang site inspection,” he said.
At 4 p.m. last Monday, April 23, five persons died after the multicab they were riding hit the 40-footer truck at the boundary of Kanyuko and Bitoon, Dumanjug.
Dumanjug information officer Lolito Bonticao Jr. identified the fatalities as Mark Quirante,10; Harvey Lopez, 2; Mary Ann Quirante, 26; Jennifer Lopez, 28; and Ikoy Lopez, 3.
Police Insp. Gilfred Baroman, Dumanjug Police Station chief, said the driver and passengers of the multicab came from a beach outing. The driver was reportedly under the influence of liquor.
Aside from these rumble strips and pavement markings, the public works office will also conduct clearing operations on the sidewalk and install road signage that would help motorists avoid road mishaps.
Dumajug Mayor Rene Asentista urged Tumulak to conduct training on the town’s traffic enforcers to further strengthen the town’s road management.
Along with Tumulak during the inspection were Engr. Joy Orcullo, head of maintenance of the DPWH 4th District; Jules Regner of Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office; and Barili Councilman Julie Flores.
