DPWH 7 Announces 4-Day Closure of Marcelo Fernan Bridge’s Viaduct
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 announced the closure of the viaduct that connects the Marcelo Fernan Bridge along the Lapu-Lapu City side starting tomorrow, Sept. 20, until Sunday, Sept. 23.
Engr. Faustino de la Cruz of the DPWH 7 made the announcement last Tuesday during the regular meeting of the Mactan-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) at the Capitol social hall.
Engr. Pericles Dakay, MCBMB vice chairperson and a private sector representative, urged the DPWH 7 to conduct a massive information dissemination on the closure to properly guide the public, particularly the commuters, on the rerouting plan and alternative routes.
Jonathan Tumulak, Capitol focal person on traffic management, said that the viaduct closure will start at 10 a.m. up to 4 p.m. It will be opened during peak hours.
Works on the portion of the viaduct will also be done on a one-lane at the time scheme, Tumulak said.
With the closure of the viaduct, de la Cruz said that commuters upon crossing the Marcelo Fernan Bridge are advised to turn right to ML Quezon Ave. going to the national highway then take the U-turn slot and head to the airport or to the Mactan Export Processing Zone.
De la Cruz said that the scope of the repair and rehabilitation includes the replacement of asphalt with concrete in the 45-meter long viaduct approach and the installation of internally illuminated solar pavement marker studs. (Cebu Provincial Government PR)
