DOTr Reviews AirAsia Move’s Pricing System

Published

on

AirAsia Move, the digital booking platform for AirAsia, recently responded to concerns about discrepancies in ticket pricing for flights in the Philippines. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has taken steps to review the platform’s pricing after reports of ticket costs exceeding standard rates.

Concerns arose when passengers reported ticket prices that were notably higher than when booking directly through airline websites. The DOTr, in coordination with the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), has been evaluating the issue to determine whether the discrepancies were due to system errors or pricing policies.

AirAsia Move’s Statement
AirAsia Move CEO Nadia Omer clarified that the company does not manually set airfares but instead relies on third-party pricing systems. She attributed the reported discrepancies to temporary synchronization issues affecting multiple online booking platforms, not just AirAsia Move.

“This technical issue was caused by a third-party provider and affected various travel platforms, including Agoda, Kiwi.com, and Traveloka,” Omer explained. She further emphasized that AirAsia Move has taken steps to address the problem and enhance safeguards to prevent similar occurrences.

Government Actions and Consumer Guidance
The DOTr and CAB continue to assess the situation to ensure fair pricing for travelers. Passengers are advised to compare prices across different booking channels and consider booking directly through airline websites to verify pricing accuracy.
