DOTC Assures Better Air-conditioning Units, Toilets in NAIA Before Year Ends
Manila (PNA) — A total of 57 new air-conditioning units will be installed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1 and 2 to provide cooler temperatures inside the airport.
The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), in a joint statement said that these new units will replace the airports’ older units.
Terminal 1’s 36 air handling units (AHUs) will be replaced with newly-procured units, 17 of them will be fully installed by November this year while the remaining 19 AHUs will be functional by March 2015.
For Terminal 2, some 21 AHUs will be fully installed by September. Nine out of the 21 units will be in place this month.
Aside from AHUs, passengers at the NAIA can also expect better comfort room facilities soon, as the rehabilitation of 121 toilets is set to be completed at Terminals 2, 3, and 4.
Rehabilitation efforts include the installation of major fixtures such as water closets, sensor-type urinals, lavatories, tiles, ceilings, and waterproofing works. To date, around 15 percent of civil works have been completed.
Meanwhile, a total of 26 toilet facilities were included for the rehabilitation for Terminal 2. MIAA said that 16 comfort rooms located in the passenger movement area are now undergoing repairs.
For Terminal 3, some 26 out of the 85 toilets have already started rehabilitation; as for Terminal 4, rehabilitation for 10 of its toilets will begin this month.
