Western Visayas still has more tourist attractions and destinations waiting to be discovered, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT) – 6.

In a media release, DOT-6 Regional Director Helen Catalbas said that there are more tourism destinations and attractions with complete facilities waiting to be discovered around the region that offer different tourism products.

She said that in order to tap new tourism circuits in the region, DOT-6 has started conducting assessment and product update of Western Visayas provinces and new tour circuit workshops for the region this April and May 2018.

“The product update aims to sustain and increase the tourist arrivals of the region and come up with new tour packages for tourists visiting the region,” she said.

She also said that new tourism establishments around the region will be highlighted during the assessment.

“This assessment also aims to check the readiness of the attractions and destinations to cater to tourists when the local government units and the national government start to promote them as part of the tourism circuit in Western Visayas,” she said.

The first leg of product update featured “Agribyahe Circuit” of the 2nd and 3rd Districts of Iloilo, which included the different farm sites in the area.

DOT-6 said the product update is in coordination with the tourism stakeholders and tourism officers of the six provinces of the region.

“This is to ensure we have the full support of LGUs and the private sector and to help them plan, improve and implement marketing strategies that will benefit the tourism sector and the community as well,” she said.

The provinces of Guimaras and Antique are slated for the next leg of the product update on the third week of April. (LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
