Manila (PNA) — In pursuing its goal to promote the Philippines’ potential to be a startup hub as one of the fastest growing economy in Asia, the Department of Science and Technology-Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICT) and the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) launched Thursday the first ever Philippine Startup Challenge (PSC).

The PSC is a nationwide competition for undergraduate students aimed at presenting their innovative technology ideas which may provide solutions to the society’s problems and current issues.

Interested teams composed of three students and one faculty adviser can join the competition along with their software or internet-based entries until September 5. A team’s faculty adviser must have attended at least one startup bootcamp held last June in key regional locations across the country.

The top ten teams which will be chosen by the end of the year will get the chance to be part of PSIA-SPRING.ph’s LaunchPad and get business development assistance through coaching and mentoring.

The startup competition is also supported by the Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE), the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines(NICP), IBM, Ideaspace Foundation Inc., Microsoft and the Vibal Group. (PNA) CTB/JDM/UTB
