Tropical Storm Peipah has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday evening and has been locally named “Domeng”.

Reports said PAGASA, through radio dzBB, warned that Domeng could pass through Metro Manila.

As of 5:00 pm update on Sunday, PAGASA said Domeng was 1,020km east of General Santos City as of 4 p.m., with maximum sustained winds of 65kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80kph.

It was moving west-northwest at 20kph and is expected to be 570km east of Davao City Monday afternoon and 180 km east of Surigao City Tuesday afternoon.

By Wednesday afternoon, report said, Domeng is expected to be in the vicinity of Cebu City.

PAGASA reported the storm may bring moderate to heavy rainfall of from 5mm to 15mm per hour within its 400-km diameter.

NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) ordered its regional units to initiate preemptive evacuation if necessary. “Let us untiringly aim for zero casualties,” NDRRMC executive director Eduardo del Rosario said in an advisory to regional disaster management units.

According to a report in “24 Oras” that aired on Sunday, residents of the Eastern Visayas region have been preparing for the coming storm.

It added that some residents of Guian town in Eastern Samar have been buying up emergency supplies while others have chosen to leave town.

The Eastern Visayas region was devastated by Typhoon Yolanda in November last year.
