After helping the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda in Central and Eastern Visayas, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) will also implement Cash for Work (CFW) program intended for fire victims of barangay Lorega- San Miguel, Cebu City.

DOLE-7 Regional Director Ma. Gloria Tango on Friday said that all fire victims aged 18 years and above are qualified to become beneficiaries of their CFW program.

Tango said that beneficiaries shall receive P327.00 minimum daily wage. The DOLE regional director further explained that the program was designed to help all victims of natural calamities such as typhoon, earthquake, flashfloods, fire and other calamities.

She said that all beneficiaries of DOLE’s program will be tasked to remove and clean all debris of buildings and houses destroyed by fire from the seven sitios of Lorega-San Miguel last March 18, 2014.

There were more than 1,000 houses engulfed by the said fire.

Earlier, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama issued an order to immediately clear the areas so that the government can implement a reblocking system there. This means that the government will have to establish roads and possibly dislocate other house owners, especially those whose houses are located in the area to be affected by the road widening.

The DOLE CFW program beneficiaries will be the ones to handle the job, provided they are properly listed in the roster of DOLE beneficiaries.

The DOLE regional director also asked applicants to file their application papers at their regional office located at the corner of Gen. Maxilom and Gorordo Avenues, Cebu City.

Lack of roads and passage ways are among the complaints aired by some firemen who were responding in the area when the fire broke out last week.
