The Department of Health (DOH) recently confirmed that a 5-year old child who was admitted to a hospital in Cebu City tested positive for coronavirus.

Coronavirus attacks the respiratory system. Symptoms include cough, sore throat, fever, and runny nose.

The 5-year old child traveled from Wuhan, China and was admitted to a hospital in Cebu City. The case was reported right away to the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Central Visayas (RESU)-7.

The child, however, tested negative for SARS and MERS-CoV and is now in stable condition. The child’s specimen was sent to Australia for virus identification.

Authorities advised the public to wash their hands frequently to avoid any unwanted contact. Proper cough etiquette was also advised by the authorities.

Currently, the new strain of coronavirus already infected 218 people in Wuhan, China. (MLC)
