DOH Celebrates Skin Awareness Disease Month
The Department of Health (DOH) celebrates skin awareness disease this month to remind people that skin problems shouldn’t be taken for granted.
According to Proclamation No. 110 signed on October 8, 2001, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declares the second week of November of every year as “National Skin Disease and Prevention Week”.
“Kani atong panit ma apektohan gyud ni sa panahon, lain lain nga mga disease ang manggawas mao ng manghinaot ta nga through this advocacy, ang atong mga kaigsoonan makahibalo unsay angay nga buhton sa ilang sakit sa panit (The weather may affect our skin condition, different skin diseases may occur, that is why we are hoping that through this advocacy, people will learn something on how to deal with such skin diseases),” said Dr. Joanri Riveral, consultant leprologist, DOH-7.
Dr. Riveral also revealed that there are two types of skin diseases, contagious and non-contagious.
The most patients suffering from certain skin diseases have something in common, itching. There are also some black, red and white spots that might occur when there is something wrong with the skin.
She also mentioned that it is really essential for people to be aware of their skin condition since it can cause further infection if not treated right away.
Dr. Riveral advised that regular check up is a must and people should not depend on self medication. (MLC)
