DOH 7: More Male Drug Dependents than Women
The Department of Health (DOH) 7 revealed that of the drug dependents in the region, majority of them are male.
DOH 7’s program researcher Myrna Nuñez, in the recent Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO-7) Forum, said that there are more male drug dependents than women in Central Visayas.
Nuñez said that based on their research, male individuals do drugs because curiosity at first or to try to forget present troubles. She said in most cases, it starts from there until they become dependent.
She said that both the male and female use shabu, marijuana and “milkshake”, a mixture of shabu and Nubain.
According to the report published by Philippine Information Agency on its website, female drug dependents are sent to Cebu’s rehabilitation center in Eversley Childs Sanitarium in Mandaue City.
Based on the DOH 7’s record, there were 23 of them as of press time.
Meanwhile, male drug users are sent to Argao Rehabilitation Center, of which 150 of them are undergoing therapy.
