DOE Promotes E-trike in Rural Areas

Published

on

The Department of Energy calls for the participation of the rural communities towards the reduction of environmental pollution and mitigation of the effects of climate change through the use of alternative fuels and energy technologies like the electric tricycle (E-trike) program.

During the alternative fuel and energy technologies forum held in Sagada, Mountain Province last week, the DOE stressed the significance of cleaner alternative energy and DOE-innovated vehicles powered by auto – Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and electricity.

DOE Senior Research Specialist Simon Leonor introduced the Energy Efficient Electric Vehicle or E-Trike, an innovation dubbed as the “Tricycle of the Future”. It is the same as the typical tricycle but uses electric motors powered by on-board battery packs. The E-trike can accommodate five people excluding the driver.

The introduction of E-trikes with lithium-ion battery technology is envisioned to pave the way for increased safety standards and improved environmental compliance which complements government’s plan to support E-vehicle business including E-trikes.

The DOE is inviting local government units to partner with them in the implementation of the E-Trike Project in their localities.

The forum was participated by local officials of the different municipalities of the province, LGU of Sagada including the transport group, tourist guide associations, Hotel and Inn Association of the place and students. (JDP/CAT-PIA CAR)
