DOE: No Major Power Problems During Typhoon Ruby
State energy office in Central Visayas claimed that no major power disturbances were observed as an effect of typhoon Ruby, which lashed out northern part of Cebu last weekend.
The assessment was made by Regional Director Antonio Labios of the Department of Energy (DOE)7 during the AGIO Forum at the PIA Cebu City office on Tuesday.
Labios said through the alertness employed by the line men of Cebu Electric Cooperative (CEBECO), minor damages, such as the downfall of some electric posts and cutting off of electrical connections were easily patched up.
Labios said the power was restored a day after electrical lines were reconnected.
“In short there were no major problems as far as power lines are concerned when typhoon Ruby lambasted the northern part of the province unlike what happened last year during the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda,” Labios said.
According to Labios, the advance pronouncements made by the weathermen before the land fall of the typhoon has helped a lot in watching the power facilities throughout the country.
However, in region 8, where Ruby made its first landfall, everybody has witnessed the major damages on power service facilities.
The DOE regional chief expressed its appreciation to the CEBECO people who maintained their alertness by immediately restoring their power facilities servicing the northern towns of Cebu.
“I also appreciate the workers of Visayas Electric Company (VECO) who rendered their 24 hour services just to watch whatever part or portion of their facilities may bogged down during the typhoon”, Labios added.
Labios also thankful the local government units, who in one way or another, led their respective risk reduction groups from the barangays to the towns, cities and provincial levels making an almost zero casualty campaign successful.
