‘Dodong’ Damages P2.7-M Worth of Rice, Corn in Cagayan

The Department of Agricluture on Tuesday reported that an estimated Php2.7 million worth of crops, particularly rice and corn, were lost due to the effects of Typhoon Dodong (Noul).

Agriculture Undcersecreatry for Operations Emerson Palad said the damage was recorded only in the province of Cagayan where Dodong made landfall.

Palad said as per field reports, damage to rice was placed at 144 metric tons (MT) covering 640 hectares (has) and with an estimated value of Php2,520,000.

On the other hand, damage to corn was at 14 MT in 16 has. valued at Php187,200.

Palad said that other than the damages in Cagayan, DA regional field offices in Regions I, III, V and the Cordillera Administrative Region, have reported that “Dodong” only brought cloudy skies with intermittent rains and moderate gusty winds in their respective regions.

“The rains brought by the typhoon were generally beneficial particularly in land preparation activities. So far, there are no reported damages and losses to the aforementioned regions,” Palad said.

In the meantime, the DA official said that they are still awaiting and validating the reports coming from other areas affected by the typhoon.

“Technical staff from the DA and concerned local government units are currently conducting field assessment on the extent of damages. The DA will immediately provide updates as soon as possible,” Palad said. (PNA) FPV/CMR
