Distribution of School Kits Marks World Day Against Child Labor
ROXAS CITY, Capiz, June 13 (PIA6) – Fifty school children received school kits from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)– Capiz Field Office, June 12, at Maayon town hall in view of the World Day Against Child Labor and the 120th Philippine Independence Day celebrations.
The gift – giving was led by DOLE – Capiz manager Ma. Cecilia Acebuque for the initial beneficiaries from barangays Salgan, Piña, Balighot, Old Guia and New Guia of Maayon town.
She was assisted by Maayon mayor Wilfredo E. Borres, Sr. and other municipal officials.
It was in view of the Project Angel Tree that was simultaneously conducted in all the provinces in the region.
“Another batch of beneficiaries from other towns is being worked out,” said DOLE – Capiz Field Office Labor Employment Officer Ridad Casidsid.
The project provides school supplies and other social services to children at risk from child labor in identified areas in Western Visayas.
Its funding was generated from the walk against child labor that was simultaneously held May 1 in various provinces in the region.
“About PhP52,000.00 were generated from the registration of participants who joined the early morning Zumba Dance exercise and walk from the Roxas City plaza to the city’s Baybay Beach front,” he added.
The release of school kits highlighted the provincial observance of the World Day Against Child Labor and the municipality’s independence day celebration. (LTP/AAL/PIA6 Capiz)
