DILG OKs P5.3M Fund to Revive Tourism in Yolanda-affected Areas
●Fund includes allocation for technical study, workshop and training that will enhance tourism industry in Yolanda-hit towns in Cebu Province.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) approves at least P5.3 million for the revival of the tourism industry in the Yolanda-affected local government units in Cebu, according to Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III.
Davide said the fund includes allocation for technical study, workshop and training.
“There was already an approval by DILG nga P5.3 million fund para sa technical study, workshop, and training. Ang tuyo ani is to further the tourism industry in Cebu, and ang target towns are those affected by Yolanda,” said Davide.
The governor said the project is also in coordination with the Department of Tourism.
On Friday morning, members of the local economic development held a meeting at the Governor’s conference room to discuss programs that will boast the tourism industry in the province, especially those affected by super typhoon Yolanda.
Davide said the province will have a ‘hands-on’ approach on this particular project.
Tourism, if enhanced, can help not only the private sectors but also the local communities, Davide said.
During yesterday’s meeting,the members of the local economic council deals with efforts involving suggestions and ideas on how to implement tourism programs to achieve it’s goal, he said.
“The focus now is how we can enhance tourism industry there, nga ang mga communities makatabang. Tan-aw nato, our tourism industry is community-driven man na. I-train nato sila, we will build their capacity para ma-improve,” Davide said.
