Die and Live
Maybe some of you are startled why I entitled this entry as “Die and Live.” It sounds stupid though but that is what I’ll be talking about.
Many of us Christians who have believed and accepted Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord know about this message, but it is important for us to get reminded about these truths so that it will remain in our heads and in our hearts.
All across the pages of the Bible, the only central message that we could find can only be summarized into one word – GOSPEL. The Gospel is the sole message that is being preached all throughout Old Testament down to the New Testament. It has never changed and will never change.
The Gospel is God’s good news to all men that Jesus Christ, God’s one and only Son, born into this world, crucified and died on the cross because of our sins and rose again from the grave, and will soon be coming back to this world to gather allthe people who have believed and accepted in Him by faith.
However, the Gospel is not just any other ordinary story. It’s not just a story told in our Sunday School classes and sermons preached on our pulpits. Without any doubt, the Gospel is a powerful and life-changing story. And Peter tells us why.
1 Peter 2:24 (English Standard Version)
24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Peter tells us that, yes, Christ bore our sins on the cross (Gospel), but he didn’t stop there. He goes on by saying so that we might DIE to sin and LIVE to righteousness. The reason why the Gospel is powerful is because it empowers us to say no to sin and to ungodly desires and to say yes to what God desires. That’s how powerful the Gospel is. It teaches us to get rid of all of the sins that are in us and to follow the very commands of God in His Word. It practically changes the way we live as what Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians, “the old is gone, the new has come.” So great!
This is the command of God’s Word for us. Because of the Gospel, we must die to our sins and live to righteousness. Are we powerless? No. Why? Only because of the Gospel.
God bless.
